Alexa is a virtual assistant technology based on a Polish speech synthesizer. The speech synthesizer was purchased by Amazon in 2013. It was first used in an Amazon Echo smart speaker and Echo Dot speakers. Alexa can control various Alexa-enabled or compatible devices as a home automation system. Users can stretch its capabilities by installing 3rd party skills made by other developers. Alexa has a companion app called Alexa available on the apple app store and Google Play Store. Functions of Alexa  Alexa can set timers, share current weather, create lists, access Wikipedia pages, or even stream music . It uses automatic speech recognition, a natural language processor, and other forms of weak AI to carry out its functions.    A user has to say the word Alexa to alert the device that a command is being issued.
